I have been writing with HTML for many years now. I have watched as the sophistication of the language has increased steadily and I try to keep up but am usually a few paces behind the cutting edge. It's easier to stand back a little sometimes. I've wielded the blade enough on other fronts.

One element of HTML that I have recently discovered, far behind the cutting edge as I am, is Character Entities.

Pound Sterling and Pilcrow, cent sign and Copyright. "£ and ¶, ¢ and ©" I should say. All may now appear on my pages.

My personal favorite is · · ·

My pages are littered with them. Better than bulleted lists, these elegant little marks look good anywhere I put them.

But I always wonder: If there's a · why isn't there a &bigdot; or a &smalldot;?
