Something Good Happening In A War Weary World
by Hector Palemar
Has the war in Afghanistan come to an end? It's been over six months now since the US entered into war there, but twenty-three years of war for the Afghanis and almost thirty years since their King was forced out into exile. Of all the wars that people have been through and talked about, Afghanistan seems to be the only place where there's always been constant war. But there is something good happening in this war weary place. On February 17, 2002, the University of Nebraska from the Omaha Center Division in the United States brought help to Afghanistan by providing books and other items needed for children to start school. In Afghanistan, school was stopped because of the war and girls were prevented from learning to read and write or from getting any education by the ruling Taliban. We hope that this conflict and all conflicts result in peace soon throughout the world. Our thoughts and hearts are with everyone affected by this conflict, including those brave journalists and photographers who have risked their lives so that the rest of the world would know what was happening. We salute their courage and wish everyone a safe return to their homelands, including all the people displaced by this war.
