Course Title: National Electrical Code
 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES 

General Objective

The National Electrical code is the standard that sets the minimum requirement for all electrical wiring and equipment installation. Students need to develop skills in applying the National Electrical Code. Prior to working in the electrical industry the student will develop basic skills and awareness of the requirements of the National Electrical Code. Identify where and when to consult the electrical code. A skilled Apprentice or journeyman needs to be able to ascertain the requirements from the code, interpret its meaning, and then comply with the intent of the code. This is to ensure that when undertaking wiring work the highest possible standards of safety can be assured for fellow workers and the community.


Students will be able to:

1. describe the purpose of the National Electrical Code.

        describe the Groups and Organizations involved.

2. describe the structure of the National Electrical Code Book
        describe types of rules.
        introduce the NEC Book.
        describe the body of the codebook.
        describe the references.

3. define NEC definitions.
        describe article 100 in the NEC Book.
        describe Labeled items in the NEC Book.
        describe Listed items in the NEC Book.

4. describe the organization of the NEC Book.
        describe the wiring and protection sector of the code.
        describe the Branch circuit sector of the codebook.
        describe the multi-wire circuit in the codebook.

5. demonstrate navigating through the NEC book.
        become familiarized with various sectors in the Codebook
