COURSE DESCRIPTION
MM 170
First Aid at Sea
Prerequisites: MSG 091 Basic First Aid
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to
provide the immediate and ongoing treatment to the sick and injured whilst at sea
and maintain that casualty until the arrival of a higher medical authority.
MM 171 Proficiency in Survival Craft
Prerequisites: MSG 089 Survival Techniques
By successfully completing this course, learners will gain the
skills and knowledge required to perform survival craft operations as required
during shipboard emergency response situations.
MM 172 Global Maritime Distress and Safety
System
Prerequisites: Nil
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to
MM 173 Advanced Fire Prevention and Control
Prerequisites: MSG 090 Fire Prevention and Control
To provide candidates with the skills and knowledge required to
respond effectively as a key member of the on board command fire fighting team
and manage shipboard fire prevention, co-ordinate tactical fire fighting and
use and maintain fire fighting and fire detection equipment carried on merchant
ships.
MM 174 Basic Radar
Prerequisites: Nil
To develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enable the
learner to be able to operate radar installations on board fishing and merchant
vessels.
MM 175 Basic Vessel Stability
Prerequisites: Nil
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to
manage the stability related requirements of a vessel of less than 80 gross
tons.
MM 176 Nautical Knowledge
Prerequisites: Nil
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required by the
master of a vessel of less than 80 gross tons to manage compliance with
legislative requirements, compliance with pollution prevention requirements,
vessel maneuvering and handling, response to emergencies, maintenance of a safe
navigational watch and handling and stowage of cargoes.
MM 177 Navigation
Prerequisites: Nil
To provide the student with the knowledge and skills in navigation
and position determination required to plan and conduct the coastal passage of
a vessel of up to 80 gross tons at the management level.
MM 178 Ship Construction and Machinery
Prerequisites: MWD
100 Enabling English
To provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required by
the master of a vessel of less than 80 gross tons to manage structural related
requirements to maintain the seaworthiness of the vessel and the operation of
pumping systems and deck machinery on the vessel.
Prerequisites: MM 178 Ship Construction and Machinery
This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required by the master of a vessel of less than 500 gross tons to manage
structural related requirements to maintain the seaworthiness of a vessel and a
propulsion unit using the appropriate engineering systems and support services.
MM 211 Small Vessel Stability II
Prerequisites: MM 175 Small Vessel Stability
This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required to manage the stability related requirements of a vessel of less than
500 gross tons.
MM 212 Navigation

This course
provides the student with the knowledge and skills required in navigation &
position determination required to plan and conduct the coastal passage of a vessel
of up to 500 gross tons at the management level.

This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required to make proper use of wheelhouse equipment for the safe navigation and
operation of vessels of up to 500 gross tons.
MM 214 Radar
Prerequisites: MM 174 Basic Radar
This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to enable the
student to be able to set up and operate radar sets for pilotage, navigation,
collision avoidance, and application of the International Regulations for
Prevention of Collision at Sea with respect to advanced collision avoidance on
board fishing and merchant vessels.
MM 215 Nautical Knowledge III
Prerequisites: MM 176 Nautical Knowledge II
This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required by the master of a vessel of less then 500 gross tons to manage
compliance with legislative requirements, compliance with pollution prevention
requirements, vessel maneuvering and handling, to respond appropriately to
emergencies and the maintenance of a safe navigational watch.
MM 216 Visual Communications
Prerequisites: Nil
This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to enable
the student to communicate by means of international signaling flags using
single letter signals and flag hoists, send and receive visual distress signals
and communicate with aircraft engaged in search and rescue operations.
MM 217 Cargo Operations
Prerequisites:
MM 175 Small Vessel Stability; MM 176 Nautical Knowledge II
This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required by the master of a vessel of up to 500 gross tons to monitor the
handling, stowage, and care of cargoes.
MM 230 Vessel Construction and Machinery II
Prerequisites: MM 210 Vessel Construction & Machinery

This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required by the master of a vessel of less than 1600 gross tonnes to, manage
structural related requirements to maintain seaworthiness of a vessel and
operate in bridge control mode the propulsion unit and appropriate support
systems and services.
MM 231 Vessel Stability and Stress
Prerequisites: MM 211 Small Vessel Stability
This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required to manage the stability related requirements of a vessel of up to 1600
gross tons.
MM 232 Bridge Operations

This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills
required to manage bridge operations on a vessel of up to 1600 gross tons.
MM 233 Nautical
Knowledge IV
Prerequisites: MM 215 Nautical Knowledge III
To provide the student with the knowledge and skills
required by the master of a vessel of up to 1600 gross tons to manage statutory
requirements related to the safety of life, safety of navigation, and preservation
of the marine environment; respond to flooding emergencies; maneuver the vessel
to carry out the vessel's operations and monitor weather conditions for the
safety of the vessel.

This course provides the student with the knowledge and
skills required by the master of a vessel of up to 1600 gross tons to monitor
the handling, stowage, and care of cargoes.
