Yap Campus Hosts Community Health Workers Training

Colonia, Yap (March 12, 2014) - COM-FSM Yap Campus held a training on Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses for Yap Community Health Workers from February 24 to March 7, 2014 at Yap Campus.

The training is part of a series of skills training for health workers through the continuing collaboration between the FSM Department of Health, Social Affairs (FSM DOHSA) and the College through its Public Health Training Program (PHTP).

The general objective of this training is to re-train Health Assistant and Community Health Workers and put a greater emphasis on activities that have the most effect on health status in Micronesia; especially health promotion and disease prevention interventions that can be performed by community health workers.

The Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses training course is designed to teach the case management process to health workers who see sick children and infants.  It is a process for a first-level facility such as a clinic, a health centre or an outpatient department of a hospital.

A total of 21 Community Health Workers and Public Health staff attended the 10-day skills training.
