Yap Upward Bound Commits Saturday for Community Service Project
Colonia, Yap (October 28, 2013) - Students from the Yap Upward Bound (UB) Program gave up their Saturday for a Community Service project on October 19, 2013. The 46 UB students from Yap High School participated in cleaning the grounds of the non-profit Daycare (Child Development Center), and filling in potholes in the adjacent parking lot of the center and at the Post Office in Colonia.
A Daycare center staff member was on hand to open up the gates and provide equipment for the cleanup. The students divided up the tasks: cutting grass, raking leaves and clippings, digging up weed in the ditch alongside the fence, and filling up potholes in the parking lot.
Participation in these activities encouraged students to give back to their community and enabled them to develop leadership skills as well as a sense of good citizenship.
The next Community Service project for the UB Program is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2013.
