Bookstore Hosts National Students Day Celebration
PALIKIR, Pohnpei (October 7, 2013) – The National campus bookstore hosted the National Students Day on October 4, 2013, in celebration and recognition of students for their volunteerism and other social responsibilities.
A variety of activities took place during the event, which included; a essay-writing contest, COM-FSM T-shirt group contest, live musical performance, and a customer satisfaction survey. The keynote speaker was Ms. Caroline Dabugsiy from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
According to bookstore manager Martin Mingii, the purpose of the event was to enhance student relations, promote community service, and acknowledge the student’s social responsibilities. Close to 150 students participated in the activity.
The winner of the essay-writing contest, entitled “Volunteerism and Community Service”, was Emilio Jonathan Mihkel who received a cash prize of $150.00, which was awarded by COM-FSM President Joseph M. Daisy, Ed.D. The winners of the COM-FSM T-shirt group contest were; Marvin Louis, Cynthia Edward, Marlon Etnod, and Virginia Ifamilik.
