President Daisy Visits Kosrae Campus
Tofol, Kosrae (September 30, 2013) – COM-FSM President & CEO Joseph M. Daisy, Ed.D. visited COM-FSM Kosrae State Campus from Monday September 23rd through Friday September 27th.
During his visit, the President and Dean Kephas met individually with Governor Lyndon Jackson, and Speaker Gibson Siba at which time President Daisy provided information on the areas of continuous quality improvement being made, and initiatives undertaken at the college.
The President and the Campus Dean later met with Lyndon Cornelius, Director of Education for the State of Kosrae. President Daisy, Dean Kephas and Director Cornelius discussed areas for increased cooperation and collaboration, especially regarding teacher preparation.
The Kosrae Campus Management Team also met with Dr. Daisy and discussed issues and options related to academic and technical programs, enrollment, retention and budget were discussed in detail.
The President also had two opportunities to meet with students to provide updates in areas of improvement and of interest to students. During the meeting, students asked questions about the meaning and value of accreditation, and also sought clarification about the purpose of the facilities fee. The President told students they should study hard, be prepared for class and plan for their own success.
On Thursday evening, the Kosrae campus community came together for a dinner to welcome President Daisy, and to celebrate the reaffirmation of the college’s accreditation by the ACCJC. Dean Kephas offered opening remarks and welcomed the President.
Also in attendance were Speaker Gibson Siba, and Director of Education, Lyndon Cornelius, both of whom congratulated the college on this important achievement.
Finally, during his weeklong visit to the Kosrae Campus, President Daisy met with faculty and staff, and also visited classes to observe instruction and levels of student engagement. At his exit meeting with faculty on Friday, September 27th the President shared his observations and encouraged faculty to set and maintain high expectations for students.
President Daisy is next scheduled to visit Yap and FMI campuses from October 23rd through October 27th, and Chuuk Campus from November 30th through December 4th.
