Campus Security Respond Swiftly to Residence Hall Fire
(Palikir, Pohnpei) – The National Campus Security Officers led by Chief Warren Ching responded to a fire alarm triggered at the Male Residence Hall on June 17, 2013. An alarm was triggered at exactly 6:34PM, within minutes of the alarm, Security Chief Ching and Officers Roby and Louis arrived on the scene and observed black smoke emitting from the building. Tracing the smoke it was discovered to be coming from the 1stfloor of the Male Residence Hall.
Resident Hall staff Hamilton and Officer Roby made an attempt to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers but the fire was already out of control. Hydrant hoses were laid out, hooked up and activated. The fire was fully extinguished at 6:42PM.
Police arrived on campus and conducted their own investigation. After clearing the scene it was evident that a matress caught on fire. The cause of fire is still unknown as the police have yet to submit a copy of their findings.
No injuries or fatalities were reported during this incident.
The National Campus Security has been active in performing fire drills throughout the National Campus. Security personnel headed by Chief Warren Ching performed a fire drill on both Males and Female's Residence Halls on Sunday, June 23,2013.
