COM-FSM Kosrae Campus Participates in Kosrae Cultural Festival
TOFOL, Kosrae (April, 11,2012 ) – COM-FSM Kosrae Campus took part in the Kosrae Cultural Activities on April 02, 2013. Despite bad weather, staff from Kosrae Campus worked together to decorate two rented cargo trucks to take part in the cultural activities.
Kosrae Campus presented all kinds of local resources gathered from traditional farming and fishing to decorate the trucks. The first truck was loaded with a good number of Kosraean woodcraft, fish, and fresh produce. There was also a demonstration of “FaFa Pounding”, a traditional way of preparing taro during special occasions.
The second truck presented a traditional Kosraean custom, with two students demonstrating a conversation between siblings using Kosraean language of utmost respect, a Kosraean custom that is no longer practiced today. Also on board was a pastor holding his bible demonstrating religion. The costumes of the individuals who were on-board the floats were inspired during the 1800’s.
During the parade the COM-FSM Kosrae Campus float lead the way with the COM-FSM banner up front. Kosrae Campus won 3rd place on the float contest.
