Awak Elementary School student champion at 2013 Pohnpei Spelling Bee
KOLONIA, Pohnpei (February 8, 2013) Leineleen Ramirez of Awak Elementary School emerged as the winner of the 2013 Pohnpei State Scripps Spelling Bee held on February 5th.
The competition, held on the second floor of the Pohnpei Small Business Development Center (PSBDC) at Pohnpei Campus, brought together students from around Pohnpei to select a representative for Pohnpei at the March spelling bee in Guam.
Ms. Ramirez won the completion after a competitive showdown with Naytanya Thomas of Pohnlangas Elementary School.
The contestants at the 2013 Pohnpei State Scripps Spelling Bee were selected through a series of spelling competitions that started early January through the sponsorship of the college’s Educational Talent Search Program (ETSP) in partnership with the Rotary Club of Pohnpei and MAHI International.
The students and elementary schools represented at the Pohnpei State Scripps Spelling Bee were Sharon Joy Delcampo of Ohmine Elementary School, Shivanna Mendiola of Kolonia Elementary School, Chelsea Hetiback and Joecy Sultan of Nett Elementary School, Shonnie Donre and Leineleen Ramirez of Awak Elementary School, Miuly Penias of Saladak Elementary School, Burt Lehau of Lukop Elementary School, Ladonna Silbanuz of Sapwalap Elementary School, Neytanya Thomas and Esmerelda Mudong of Pohnlangas Elementary School, Emyleen Shra Ladore of ESDM Elementary School, Tracy Olpet of Rohi Elementary School, Celyann Hebel of Wone Elementary School, Kyle Klyde Mihkel of Enpein Elementary School, Sinjii David of Nanpei Memorial Elementary School, Kingston Route and Larenda Ardos of Seinwar Elementary School, and Junette Yarofailtog of RSP Elementary School.
