CIS Program produces its own club
PALIKIR, Pohnpei (February 7, 2013) – Computer and Information Systems (CIS) students at the National Campus met for the first time last month and created their own club. About 70 CIS major students attended the meeting when they launched the Bright Young Techno Entrepreneur (BYTE).
The Business Administration Division organized the first meeting that created the new club and elected new officers. Business Administration Division Chairperson Joseph Felix Jr. and division faculty members Edper Castro and Marlene Mangonon spearheaded the effort. Castro and Mangonon also serve as advisors for the new club.
In his opening remarks, Professor Felix, Jr. told the eager students that they were “making history” and that in “the next 10 years or so you are going to tell your own children that you are part of this [historic] organization,” he said.
For their first act, the new club elected their officers. They include Mr. Bernie Suzuki as president, Ms. Lilly Billen as vice president, Ms. Rea Mae Hermuth as secretary, and Mr. Dalton David as treasurer. The club also selected representatives from each FSM state. The state representatives are Mr. Noriekka Lekka for Pohnpei, Mr. Emmanuel Chris Dannis for Chuuk and Mr. Daniel Uwetegamar for Yap. The club does not have any representative for Kosrae since no Kosraean students attended the first meeting.
The newly elected BYTE officers organized future activities, which include a welcoming party and induction of the newly elected officers. The officers will announce the dates of the activities at a later date.
