College of Micronesia-FSM Leadership Pays A Courtesy Visit to Pohnpei State Governor, Honorable Stevenson Joseph

Kolonia, Pohnpei, 11 July 2024 – COM-FSM Board of Regents Chair, Mrs. Suzanne Gallen, with COM-FSM President, Dr. Theresa Koroivulaono paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Pohnpei state, the Honorable Stevenson Joseph. Chair Gallen and President Koroivulaono were joined by Executive Director for Institutional Advancement and External Affairs, (former FSM President) Emanuel (Manny) Mori; Vice President for Administrative Services, Joseph Habuchmai; and Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Quality Assurance, Jennifer Helieisar.

During the meeting, Dr. Theresa expressed her gratitude to Governor Joseph for his support of the college, firstly with the delivery of his commencement remarks at the college’s 77th graduation ceremony in May 2024. Discussions covered a range of topics including the college’s available plans and programs  in the career and technical education fields as well as early childhood programs. Conversations also centered on special education programs, highlighting the need for certification of teachers to support children with special needs and the types of career paths that are available to them. Furthermore, Governor Joseph was interested in the types of post-secondary educational opportunities that COM-FSM could provide for students with special needs.   

Other topics of interest that arose focused on the college’s plan for the COM Land Grant building and potential endowment fund activities. Discussions also included the Memorandum of Understanding between Pohnpei State and COM-FSM in relation to the use of the Small Business Development Center building at the CTEC campus in Kolonia. The visit concluded on a positive note for a collaborative partnership, focusing on meeting the college’s mission moving forward.
