Kosrae Campus Dedicates New Building
TOFOL, Kosrae (August 17, 2012) – The College of Micronesia-FSM Kosrae Campus dedicated a new building that will house five different programs and services.
The new building, which was received from Kosrae High School, will house the new Learning Resources Center (LRC), a new carpentry shop, the Area Health Education Center program, an electronics shop, and a new Food and Agriculture Degree Program classroom.

The dedication was attended by Kosrae Campus Dean Kalwin Kephas and staff as well as the Kosrae State leadership. The Learning Resources Center Director Jennifer Hainrick and Director of Development and Communications Relations Joseph Saimon also attended the dedication since they were at Kosrae Campus during the dedication.
On behalf of the college, Kosrae Campus Dean Kalwin Kephas thanked everyone who contributed to the acquisition and renovation of the facility. He thanked Kosrae State Department of Education Director and COM-FSM Board of Regents Vice Chairman Lyndon Cornelius as well as the Kosrae State Leadership for their part in ensuring the transfer of the facility from Kosrae High School to COM-FSM Kosrae Campus.
Besides housing the programs at the college, Dean Kephas said the new LRC and trades and technology programs hosted in the building will also serve to transition students from Kosrae High School to the college. He also hoped that such celebrations will happen again soon.
After the presentation of the keys to the campus dean, the LRC director and the Kosrae Campus Instructional Coordinator Nena Mike cut the ribbon to mark the dedication of the new building.
The lieutenant governor of Kosrae also attended the ceremony. In his remarks, Lieutenant Governor Sigrah thanked the contractor and all who helped renovate the building. He said that the increasing number of college enrollees at Kosrae Campus calls for new facilities. On behalf of the state governor, the lieutenant governor said that the state stands ready to assist the college in other areas.
For the closing remarks, Cooperative Research and Extension Coordinator Kenye Killin said that the new building is important as it will serve the future needs of the children in Kosrae.
Everyone was able to view the new building after the dedication ceremony.
