Kosrae’s Congressional Candidates Outline Goals
The event was scheduled as a two-part political forum and held for two hours each day; the first forum was on February 19th, 2015, which featured the 2-Year Term candidates-- incumbent Vice Speaker Paliknoa P. Welley and challenger Rensley A. Sigrah; the second forum held the next day, included the 4-Year Term candidates—incumbent Yosiwo P. George and challenger Vice President Alik L. Alik. The audience made up of students, staff, faculty, and interested members of the community, were able to hear respective goals enumerated by the candidates.
The forum theme was: “Kosrae in 2023 and Beyond: Federation or Secession?” Each candidate was in favor of the federation (Kosrae to remain in the FSM), and successfully outlined his goals as to how Kosrae could play a pivotal role in working closely with other states. The event was initiated by Associate Professor Skipper S. Ittu of EN208 Introduction to Philosophy, and coordinated by the students of the EN208 class. Students were responsible not only to pose the questions but also to critically contrast the political views or philosophies of the candidates.
