College Graduates First Class of Nurses
Palikir, Pohnpei (December 16, 2014) – The College’s Nursing Program produced its first batch of Nurses during a pinning and capping ceremony on December 15, 2014, at Pohnpei Small Business Development Center.
Members of the College and local community including members of the FSM Congress and representatives from the Health Department including the Secretary of Health Ms. Vita Skilling witnessed the pinning and capping of the graduates.
The graduates marched in the middle of the room and looked astonishing wearing their all white Nursing uniforms. The theme was; “A dream does not become a reality through magic; it takes Sweat, Determination and Hard Work”
The ten students who finished the nursing program were; Kenye Beth Esau, Kenye Fagolimul, Queensasha Gallen, Ivan BJ Hedson, Welsihner John, Giftleen Kusto, Tracy Lawechresh, Selyn Mongkeya, Richard Pretrick, and Leslie Primo
Keynote speaker Dr. Johnny Hedson, Chief of Medical Services of the Pohnpei State Hospital shared that “Today marks a landmark in the history of the College and the Health Systems in the FSM, when our first locally cultivated nurses will pledge to galvanize their commitment to a noble career in life they have dearly chosen.”
Dr. Hedson also added that the profession that these young individuals have chosen is remarkably important in the development roadmap in Health for all the FSM States and the Nation.
The ceremony concluded with a luncheon that was shared amongst friends and families of the graduates.
