College Holds Academic Convocation

Palikir, Pohnpei (August 15, 2014) – College of Micronesia-FSM held its 3rd Academic Convocation at the FSM-China Friendship Sports Center to honor and showcase its faculty at both Pohnpei and National Campuses.

Faculty, staff, and students from both campuses attended the event, including members of the college’s Board of Regents headed by Chairman Kasio Mida and Regent Churchill Edward.

Chairman Mida shared that “student success is an important measure of a school’s commitment to students and its performance in achieving it. COM-FSM must be applauded for its strong commitment to student success, especially under this administration.”

He concluded with a challenge to the students; “I urge those of you who may decide to go abroad to further your education, to come back home after you are done.  The US does not need you; our country does.  Those of us who have a stake in the future of the FSM must be the ones to determine the kind of future we want for ourselves, our children and future generations to come.  Our destiny must be ours to decide.”

College President Joseph M. Daisy, EdD through his remarks shared that “on behalf of the Board of Regents, I offer my gratitude and thanks in recognition of your significant contribution to the education of the students of COM-FSM and to the future of the FSM. The commencement of a new academic year is an exciting and wonderful time.  Our convocation celebrates a symbolic “beginning”, the good will, and the great joy that accompanies the possibilities and the promise of the future.”

President Daisy also acknowledged and thanked government officials, community and business leaders for their continuous support to the college and added; “We will continue to work with you as we all seek to strengthen the college, ensure greater collaboration, establish strong partnerships, and meet the higher learning needs of its students and citizens.”
