- CNN
Newsroom and World View for ESL
This site provides a variety of activities for ESL learners
including a weekly vocabualry quiz taken from the content of World View
programs, and grammar and discussion questions as well. Vocabulary quizzes
provide drop-down menus which allow students to choose from a number of
words to fill in the blanks. The quizzes may then be submitted for
"grading." The quizzes are based upon a weekly Newsroom or
WorldView Broadcast by Turner Educational Services Inc.

- ESLoop
This is a collection of sites relevant to English Language Teaching
and Learning on the World-Wide Web. Each site is linked to the next, so that
no matter where you start, you will eventually make your way around all the
sites and end up back at the beginning. Just pick a site, and on each
page, look for the "ESLoop" links. These links will eventually
take you around all sites in the 'Loop. Don't worry if a site is down: just
click the "Back" button on your browser, and choose the
"Skip" or "Next 5" link to go past the downed site.
- Exchange
According to the authors of this site, "The goals of Exchange
are to provide an opportunity for non-native English speakers to express
themselves through the use of English, to provide resources to enhance the
learning of English, and to create a unique source of knowledge and insight
about different cultures. To accomplish these goals, Exchange publishes
writings of non-native English speakers from all over the world." The
current sections of Exchange are: Cookbook, World Cultures, Stories,
Pen-Pals, and Class Projects.
- John
and Sarah's TEFL Pitstop
Includes games like "Hexagons" and "Battle
Spaceships" for use with vocabulary work (or with grammar), which might
be most suitable for younger learners, but might also be adapted to use with
adults. It also has a phonetic chart, trivia questions, and an idea sheet to
simulate speaking/conversation. In addition, this page provides links to
other pages which include pen pals, ESLoop sites, and online courses. A very
good site.
- The
On-line Writing Lab at Purdue University
This site provides a set of resources for ESL teachers and students.
It includes handouts and links to related internet sites. This resource

used in the Purdue University Writing Lab.
- Pizzaz!
Pizzaz!, a site created by Leslie Opp-Beckman, provides creative

of Tricks, More Publishing Opportunities, and Other Teacher Resources. For
related sites and information, see Opp-Beckman's home page, OPPortunities
in ESL.
- Raising
Students' Awareness of Learning in Reading
The site's creator, Geoff Morrison, offers an evaluation
sheet he uses with his intermediate/advanced learners to get them to
summarize what they have learned, having read a particular work. Several of
the questions he has them answer are vocabulary related, but others are
intended to make the students aware of the techniques used in reading, and
most specifically, those areas in which they may need improvement.
