Course Description: A one semester course designed as an introduction to the basic ideas of data presentation, descriptive statistics, linear regression, and inferential statistics including confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Basic concepts are studied using applications from education, business, social science, and the natural sciences. The course uses spreadsheet software for both data analysis and presentation.

    Note that the assessment could be repeated five times for each outcome so each outcome has its own individual assessment cell. If required, this can be done. I thought that the assessment repeated five times looked redundant and considered the condensation to be a matter of style and not substance. I apologize if I have erred.

  7. Methods of Instruction The course will be taught by lecture, class discussion, and the use of spreadsheet software for problem solving and computer simulations. This course will be taught in a computer laboratory classroom. Also, students will be encouraged to utilize the computer labs outside of class for homework assignments.

  9. Instructional costs Large screen computer display technology that can viewed with the lights on, routine classroom supplies. Availability of OpenOffice.org Calc software on student accessible computers on campus.
  10. Evaluation Methods of measurement will include class participation, homework, quizzes, tests, midterm, and final examinations. A final percentage will be calculated by dividing the total points earned by the the total points possible. Grades will be assigned according the following: 90-100% A; 80-89% B; 70-79% C; 60-69% D, below 60% F.

Note that the final examination is currently organized into three sections that mirror the three CLOs above. These sections well reflect underlying knowledge structures within the field of statistics.
